Arthroscopy is a minimally-invasive orthopaedic surgical technique used to diagnose and repair damaged joints. A small incision is made in the skin, through which an arthroscope is advanced into the joint.

The arthroscope is a special device that sends images from the inside of the examined joint to a computer screen. This enables the doctor to carry out a detailed assessment of the damaged tissues and to repair them without major surgery. Because it is associated with a lower risk of infection, does not require long-term therapy and is painless (the patient is given an anaesthetic), arthroscopy has become a common treatment option for joint diseases.

Shoulder joint arthroscopy is a type of surgery involving glenohumeral joint endoscopy coupled with subacromial space endoscopy. Various reconstruction measures may be undertaken during the procedure:
- glenoid reconstruction (Bankart injuries, SLAP)
- tenodesis (relocation) of the long head of the biceps muscle tendon
- rotator cuff reconstruction
